Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2011

Ready to go to the AHFA's in Brisbane

With the Australian Master Award Winner - Tracey Hughes

The La Vita Team with the Australian Hairdresser of the Year - Joey Scandizzo

The Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2011 were held at the Brisbane Convention Centre last night and it was an incredible night. It was amazing that only a few months after Queensland had suffered such horrendous floods that the industry could pull together to celebrate the talent and skill that Australian Hairdressing has to offer. It was a very emotional night for the publisher of the AHJ - Michelle Sewell as she stood on stage and spoke about her own trauma of having her business wash away with the raising flood waters along with many other hairdressing salons.

This year the awards were more of an intimate affair but I felt like it was definitely more personal, and it was easy to go around and say hi to all your hairdressing colleagues througout the evening. As I have been based in London for the past 6 months it was great to be able to catch up with my fellow aussie hairdressers to find out what they had been doing.

I have to congratulate all of the finalists and winners but in particular Joey Scandizzo, the 2011 Australian Hairdresser of the Year. This is the second year in a row that Joey has taken out this prestigious award and he definitely deserves it. He has done many things for this industry and to have someone with his character as Hairdresser of the Year makes me proud to be a hairdresser.

Nella, Nick, Lizzee and I all enjoyed the evening and it was great to be able to spend my last weekend in Australia among friends. This will definitely be an awards night that I will remember!

There is no place like home

I have been back in Australia for the past month visiting family, catching up with friends and also doing some work in the salon. It is so nice to do all the things that you are not able to do in London. Just get in the car and be down at the beach in 10 minutes, priceless! I have been down to Bargara as often as possible. Also being able to hang out my washing outside and it be dry in a few hours is a pleasure I am enjoying. I have loved seeing all the special people in my life and you definitely appreciate everything once you have left.

Nick and I went to a race day on Saturday but unfortunately the local races were called off due to the rain. We enjoyed ourselves. I have another exciting chapter to my adventure once I return to London so I will keep you posted as it unfolds.

Historical Edinburgh

On our walk to Arthur's seat

Inside the gates of Edinburgh Castle

I have just spent the weekend up in Edinburgh and I had such a great time! At this time of year it is definately quieter than London (which is a nice change) and it was great because you can walk everywhere. The history in the Castle is amazing and I can recommend to go to the Camera Obsucra to get a great view of the city. I have booked my tickets to go back in August for the fringe festival, many people have told me how electric Edinburgh is during the festival, can't wait!

What an incredible three weeks!

Our first night in Berlin and it was snowing, just beautiful!

When I returned to Paris and had escargot (snails), so tasty.

Over Camden Lock in London

I have had an action packed three weeks while Nick was over visiting. We had a wonderful time in Berlin and for someone who hadn't seen snow before, I think Nick has seen enough to last him for some time. It was so great to see a city covered in so much snow. It snowed the first night we arrived which felt pretty special, considering we live in Queenland and don't get snow. Berlin is definately a city I will be returning to visit, it has so much history and I love the new modern architecture I saw.

At the start of this week we ventured to Paris for a few days and every time I go I fall in love with the city even more. I can't explain how great the French food is, you have to go there to try it for yourself. We tried to taste everything we could and I think Nick is already having withdrawls from not being able to eat the baguettes. We went to see the Bvlgari collection and it completely blew me away. The craftsmanship of the jewellery was like nothing I have ever seen before.

We went and saw 'Priscilla the Musical' in Soho last night and it was a great way to end Nick's overseas adventure. I couldn't stop laughing when Alf Stewart came out on stage in his King Gee work clothes, priceless!

Happy New Year

I hope everyone had fun celebrating the New Year and I wish everyone health and happiness for 2011. Nick and I went to a friends house and had a great time! It is so nice to have a friend from home to celebrate with.

This year will bring many great things and I am looking forward to how it unfolds. xoxo
