Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2011

Ready to go to the AHFA's in Brisbane

With the Australian Master Award Winner - Tracey Hughes

The La Vita Team with the Australian Hairdresser of the Year - Joey Scandizzo

The Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2011 were held at the Brisbane Convention Centre last night and it was an incredible night. It was amazing that only a few months after Queensland had suffered such horrendous floods that the industry could pull together to celebrate the talent and skill that Australian Hairdressing has to offer. It was a very emotional night for the publisher of the AHJ - Michelle Sewell as she stood on stage and spoke about her own trauma of having her business wash away with the raising flood waters along with many other hairdressing salons.

This year the awards were more of an intimate affair but I felt like it was definitely more personal, and it was easy to go around and say hi to all your hairdressing colleagues througout the evening. As I have been based in London for the past 6 months it was great to be able to catch up with my fellow aussie hairdressers to find out what they had been doing.

I have to congratulate all of the finalists and winners but in particular Joey Scandizzo, the 2011 Australian Hairdresser of the Year. This is the second year in a row that Joey has taken out this prestigious award and he definitely deserves it. He has done many things for this industry and to have someone with his character as Hairdresser of the Year makes me proud to be a hairdresser.

Nella, Nick, Lizzee and I all enjoyed the evening and it was great to be able to spend my last weekend in Australia among friends. This will definitely be an awards night that I will remember!

There is no place like home

I have been back in Australia for the past month visiting family, catching up with friends and also doing some work in the salon. It is so nice to do all the things that you are not able to do in London. Just get in the car and be down at the beach in 10 minutes, priceless! I have been down to Bargara as often as possible. Also being able to hang out my washing outside and it be dry in a few hours is a pleasure I am enjoying. I have loved seeing all the special people in my life and you definitely appreciate everything once you have left.

Nick and I went to a race day on Saturday but unfortunately the local races were called off due to the rain. We enjoyed ourselves. I have another exciting chapter to my adventure once I return to London so I will keep you posted as it unfolds.
